Board

The board you are in the running to win is Stephen’s mid-length 7’2″ x 21 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ paulownia wooden board, glassed in bio epoxy resin and featuring a hand-drawn, burnt-in turtle design with Pāua shell inlays for eyes. When shaping the board over a 40-hour period, Stephen found himself being inspired by turtles, which are often an uplifting sight to surfers and a unique experience that connects many surfers together.

Things you need to know…

We’ll pick a winner on Monday 31st July 2023 so you have plenty of time to enter. We will announce the winner in our September 2023 Spring edition. This competition is open to all Smorgasboarder readers throughout Australia and New Zealand.

PLEASE NOTE

It will be the winner’s responsibility to collect their prize. This is a competition of skill – the better you (comp) the greater your chance of winning this beautiful board.

Shapes by Steve o

As someone who has been tinkering, shaping and creating with timber since he was young, no doubt some of Stephen Halpin’s best work is seen in his beautiful and unique collection of wooden boards. Based in Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, Stephen likes to use recycled wood or sustainable plantation-grown timber wherever possible, as he strongly believes we all have to look after the environment however we can.
